Reduce Child Labor
School scholarship
Problem
In West Africa, impoverished farmers struggle to earn income, a problem compounded by poor agricultural practices and technologies. Children go to work at an early age to help their families earn enough to survive. They are forced to leave school and often take on responsibilities that threaten their well-being. Children miss the opportunity to learn the skills that they will need as adults to attain higher paying jobs, perpetuating the cycle of poverty.
The Gift
Your gift will provide an educational scholarship for a child and a small loan to help offset the cost of his or her labor for the parent or guardian. The child will be enrolled in a formal school. The loan will be used to improve the family enterprise and will be paid back to the school to cover tuition costs over a three-year period.
