Classes for retirees
Over the next 25 years, the number of older Americans will double, and older adults will make up a larger portion of the population than ever before in U.S. history. Unfortunately, for many older Americans this additional phase of life is often associated with lower quality of life due to declining physical, cognitive, and social activity. The potential for 72 million Americans to age without adequate physical, cognitive, and social activity is a problem. The time to act is now.
Your gift will help provide older adults with opportunities to learn and lead in their communities through OASIS by taking part in challenging arts, health, technology classes and volunteer service programs. By participating in OASIS lifelong learning and service opportunities, older adults can increase their intellectual stimulation, improve their overall health, increase their level of social engagement, and build their skills in a variety of areas. A growing body of research provides evidence that participating in lifelong learning and service opportunities can effectively delay or even prevent the onset of chronic conditions and foster “successful” aging. The MacArthur Foundation Study of Aging in America found that the key factors for preserving a high quality of life are maintaining a low risk for disease, a high level of engagement with one’s community, and high physical and cognitive function. Your gift will make it possible for OASIS to enrich the lives of hundreds of older adults seeking to age successfully. Thank you!
