Build A Shelter
Convertible shelter
Problem
Each year, millions of people lose their homes because of natural and man-made disasters, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and civil conflict. The most vulnerable of these are also the poorest of the affected communities. With no resources and no money, these families must wait for subsidies to become available before then can build temporary shelters or rebuild their homes.
The Gift
With decades of experience in post-disaster environments, CHF has fine-tuned a methodology to help homeless families by rapidly building temporary-to-permanent shelters that use locally available materials. The construction of these shelters, which are structurally sound for the short-term and can be reconstructed into permanent homes for the long-term, is done by local community members who are then equipped to help their neighbors and be better prepared for the future, particularly in areas that are prone to natural disasters such as hurricanes. Your gift of $100 can be the difference between sleeping in a tent for 3 months and having a solid roof over one’s heads.
