Mission
Throughout the world, Operation Smile volunteers repair childhood facial deformities while building public and private partnerships that advocate for sustainable healthcare systems for children and families. Together, we create smiles, change lives, heal humanity.
History
Since 1982, more than 100,000 children have been treated by thousands of volunteers in Central and South America, Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe and Asia and thousands of healthcare professionals have been trained globally.
Operation Smile will commemorate its 25th Anniversary with a year-long, multi-faceted series of initiatives to promote sustainability and capacity-building among its 25 partner countries.
The anniversary celebration will culminate in November 2007, with the World Journey of Smiles, 43 simultaneous missions in 25 countries, with a goal of providing new smiles and new lives for an estimated 5,000 children living with facial deformities.
Operation Smile has been distinguished by many prestigious awards, including the first $1 million Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize to recognize outstanding contributions made to alleviate human suffering.

Impact
To date, Operation Smile volunteers have treated more than 100,000 children in Central and South America, Africa, Middle East, Eastern Europe and Asia and thousands of healthcare professionals have been trained globally.
Working with Operation Smile International Foundations, our programs are aimed at grooming self sufficiency in mission countries. Now, more than half of our 25 partner countries are treating children on their own through local initiatives with their own volunteers and their own resources. Last year alone, 9334 children where treated through international and in-country local missions.
CEO
William P. Magee Jr., D.D.S., M.D., a leading plastic and craniofacial surgeon, founded Operation Smile in 1982 with his wife, Kathleen S. Magee, B.S.N., M.Ed., M.S.W., and serves as the organization's Chief Executive Officer. Operation Smile is a private, not-for-profit volunteer medical services organization providing reconstructive surgery and related health care to indigent children and young adults in developing countries and the United States.
In addition to leading the organization as CEO, Dr. Magee also trains international physicians in craniofacial techniques through Operation Smile's annual Physicians' Training Program.
