Problem

Deaf children often drop out of primary school. Without hope for further education Deaf youth are relegated to live beneath their capabilities. Without a gift of a job they remain in low esteem on the margins of society. Given the proper training and job apprenticeship, in this electronic world, the average Deaf person can perform well at most any vocation and become a respected member of society.

The Gift

Your $30 gift of a job for an out of school Deaf adolescent provides a unique on-the-job training (OJT) experience. GDC, through its partners, match the interests and aptitude of Deaf adolescents with suitable employment. The funds are used to purchase required tools, pay the trainer / employer for up to three months of on-the-job hosting and to provide a small stipend to the trainee. After three months or so of OJT, the employer decides whether to hire the apprentice. In cases where the Deaf worker is not hired efforts will be made to find alternative or self-employment.
