Prevent Abuse
10 educational CDs
Problem
Many people with disabilities utilize Personal Assistance Services to assist with home health care and activities of daily living (such as dressing, bathing and eating) so that they can live independently in the community. Unfortunately, the incidence of physical and emotional abuse by caregivers in such settings is alarmingly high, and is exacerbated by conditions of poverty and disempowerment: Those who are being abused often do not report abuse for fear of retribution.
The Gift
This CD presents a short program on abuse awareness and prevention strategies for people with disabilities, their family members and service providers. The program, which focuses on the need to recognize and talk about the incidence of abuse, can be shown in educational settings, by domestic violence services, by social service providers, or in any number of other contexts. Your gift of $20 will underwrite the duplication of ten CDs and help to bring this serious, damaging issue out into the light. Escaping an abusive relationship can be one important step as a person with a disability gains a sense of self-esteem and self-determination.
