Problem

Costs to climb Mount Kilimanjaro are considerable with payments in park fees alone at $100 per day. However, the majority of these expenditures remain with the government and climbing companies, leaving the ones who do the brunt of the work – porters – with not only low wages but often inhumane working conditions. Many porters climb Kilimanjaro with inadequate clothing, footwear, and equipment.

The Gift

This gift will provide for 1 month's rent for the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project's (KPAP) office. Through KPAP's office porters can obtain clothing to climb the mountain and free educational classes. The KPAP office also serves as an informational center for climbers regarding the proper treatment of porters.
