Train Support Staff
Community HIV services
Problem
The spread of HIV and the burden of AIDS undermines communities, nations and development. There is an urgent need for access to prevention, care and support services in AIDS-affected communities. However, in poor countries, the capacity of national health care systems to deliver these services may be weak. Also, services may be beyond the reach of many people, particularly those in rural areas. Yet without them, HIV cannot be contained and people will die needlessly.
The Gift
Your donation will help us to train local people to deliver HIV prevention, care and support services within their communities, making available a much-needed resource. When trained, they will work to raise awareness and increase understanding of treatment within communities, which helps to reduce stigma and discrimination around HIV and ARV treatment. They will provide necessary support in starting and remaining on treatment, lifetime adherence to treatment, positive living, prevention, psychological support and meeting economic and social needs. Also, they will contribute to referral systems between clinics, other health facilities and community groups. This will save lives and make a real difference.
