Prevent Conflict
The Balkans
Problem
Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, are names that did not all appear on the map a few decades ago, yet they comprise a region, the Balkans, that has suffered centuries of ethnic conflict. In the recent past, the Balkans experienced state-sponsored ethnic cleansing, criminal rulers and the internal usurpation of power and land. Crisis Group analyzes the root causes of the conflict and develops policy prescriptions for enduring peace.
