American Kestrel
Adopt a Nestbox
Problem
Hawk Mountain Sanctuary has been studying the breeding, wintering and migratory habits of American kestrels for more than 50 years. This small falxon is an excellent bioindicator of ecocosystem health, helping us learn more about how famrland habitats function. Because human-altered habitats limit and eliminate trees and snags for kestrels to nest in, artificial boxes place by Hawk Mountain prodivde much-need "nurseries", therefore growing the lcoal population of kestrels.
