Problem

The south and central regions of Mozambique suffer a serious landmine problem. The presence of landmines and UXO (unexploded ordnance) prevents farmers from planting their fields or grazing their livestock. Mined roads and paths block trade and safe access to water. Aid agencies are hesitant to visit mined areas to implement health and education projects. Landmines leave rural populations mired in a continuous cycle of poverty.
