Fill A Bookshelf
10 books for a library
Problem
How many children grow up with books in their homes? How many communities can boast of well-stocked libraries? The reality is that in every part of the world, children are in need of new and quality books. To anyone who believes in the power of books to inspire children, to stimulate their curiosity and creativity, the gift of filling an empty bookshelf—and possibly instilling a life-long love of words—is priceless.
The Gift
Through our Books for Kids project, The Global Fund for Children donates titles from its award-winning collection of children’s books to grassroots groups reaching the most vulnerable young people. We believe that literacy remains a pressing issue for children and families all over the world, and that reaching children at a young age is vital. Our multicultural books depict positive images of children, and incorporate their perspectives into the text. With vibrant photographs and kid-friendly narration, Global Fund for Children books can show a child from an isolated community what life is like in Kenya, India, or Peru—and that other children all over the world also share the joys of playing ball, going to school, and painting pictures.
