Strive for Security

Problem
In October 2000, the United Nations adopted Resolution 1325 on Women and Peace and Security, which recognized the critical role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflict and stressed the importance of their equal participation and full involvement in all efforts for the maintenance and promotion of peace and security. This resolution must be urgently and fully implemented in all conflict situations, as the empowerment of women is essential for sustainable peace.
The Gift
Your gift will enable Equality Now to produce and distribute Women's Action campaign alerts to approximately 50 members of the Women's Action Network, who voice their opposition to human rights violations against women and girls by contacting government authorities, circulating petitions and raising awareness in their communities. When governments encounter protest from around the world, they know they are being held accountable for these human rights abuses. The activists you help mobilize will, for example, demand full recognition of women’s rights in Afghanistan, where the security of women and girls is continually threatened, and advocate for a commitment to fundamental human rights as an approach to sustainable peace. Your gift helps channel collective outrage into strategic action, and the public pressure generated continues to multiply, resulting in a greater impact in the struggle for justice and equality for all women and girls.
