Problem
The world is changing all the time and it is often unclear what the impact of some of these changes might be. Globalization, the war on terror – what are the trends and what are the realities for civil society organizations operating in the current world climate? How are global changes affecting principles such as ‘justice for all’ at the local level? These are just some of the questions that are being asked.
The Gift
Your gift will contribute to independent research into current issues affecting civil society organizations, including various questions around accountability and responsibility – where does responsibility for upholding justice lie? How can citizens ensure that organizations, governments or corporations are accountable for their actions? There is also urgent need for analysis of the legal climate for civil society in various countries (e.g. Venezuela and Zimbabwe). The research will be widely discussed and distributed, and will be available for use by organizations from around the world in shaping effective programs to uphold citizen rights. Promoting debate and discussion around such issues is important for the development of strong policies based on hard facts and detailed situation assessments. Through better understanding the current situation, CIVICUS and other civil society organizations, whether they work locally or internationally, will be more effective in acting together for a just world.
