School sanitary block
Problem
Many schools in Guatemala have horribly inadequate sanitation facilities, if they have them at all. There might be one overused latrine for an entire school, leaving children with no option but to simply go outside. There is often no water available at schools which creates hotbed for disease. Inadequate sanitation at school is a special problem for girls who often drop out when they reach puberty.
The Gift
Your $100 gift will help provide a school sanitary block (total cost $5,000) in a rural Guatemalan school. This project will include water service, adequate, gender-sensitive sanitation facilities, and a hand-washing station to help children develop proper hygiene habits.
