Overview

Shoes That Fit is a national, non-profit children's charity providing new shoes to children in need so that they can attend school in comfort and with dignity. We are rated a 4 Star Charity, the highest rating available by Charity Navigator and our volunteers run Shoes That Fit chapters in hundreds of schools across the U.S. operating exclusively on private donations, with no federal or state funding.

Through our programs, each child gets exactly what they need. In our volunter-run chapters, 100% of your purchase goes to the child; you literally hold your donation in your hands.

Mission

The mission of Shoes That Fit is to build the self-esteem of children in need by providing them with new shoes for school.

History

Shoes That Fit began in 1992 as a grassroots, volunteer-run children's charity helping children at one elementary school in Pomona, CA.

Program

Shoes That Fit pairs sponsoring groups such as businesses, colleges and community service groups with children in need at elementary schools. The school identifies the children most in need, then measures each child with materials we provide. Needed items are then purchased by the sponsoring group and given to the children.

Impact

Since 1992, more than 736,000 items have been given to children in need by Shoes That Fit volunteer chapters throughout 1,200 schools across the U.S.

New shoes that are appropriate for school help children in need fit in, allowing them to concentrate on their studies rather than their circumstances.

Testimonials from teachers, school administrators and counselors prove that filling a basic need like new shoes improves self-esteem, behavior and attendance in many of these deserving children.

Goals

The goal of Shoes That Fit for 2009 is to continue expanding our volunteer run chapters across the U.S. to provide more shoes to more children in in need. After all, doesn't every child deserve shoes that fit?

CEO

Roni Lomeli began volunteering for Shoes That Fit in 1992 while working full time in the insurance industry. In addition to her volunteer work, Roni also served on the Board of Directors while working part-time as the Development Director for Shoes That Fit.

In 2001, the board asked her to step into the Executive Director position. Roni gladly accepted and transitioned from her role as insurance executive to a leader in the non-profit sector.

Under her leadership, Shoes That Fit has experienced tremendous growth in all areas of our organization with one small staff of five in Claremont, CA. She has garnered several national awards including the 2008 Smart Cookie Reader's Choice Award and most recently the Harlequin More Than Words Award.
