Overview

Seeds of Peace is a nonprofit, nonpolitical organization dedicated to empowering young people from regions of conflict with the leadership skills required to advance reconciliation and coexistence. Through the Seeds of Peace International Camp in Maine, year-round regional programming, international youth conferences, regional workshops, educational and professional opportunities, participants develop empathy, respect, and confidence, as well as the leadership, communication and negotiation skills necessary to create a lasting peace for future generations.

Mission

Treaties are negotiated by governments. Peace is made by people.

Seeds of Peace is doing what no government can.

It is sowing the seeds of peace among the next generation of leaders.

It is educating them to develop empathy, respect, and confidence.

It is equipping them with communication and negotiation skills.

It is enabling them to see the human face of their enemies.

By empowering them to emerge as tomorrow’s leaders, Seeds of Peace is working to forge the personal relationships so critical to peacemaking and reconciliation.

Program

International Camp in Maine - Over 350 teenagers from regions of conflict each year (Delegations of Israelians, Palestinians, Jordanians, Egyptians, Indians, Pakistanis, Afghans); Regional workshops; Regional homestay exchange program; International Alumni Programs; Educational and professional courses

Impact

Over 4,000 strong and growing, Seeds of Peace Alumni and have made, and continue to make, a siginificant impact on their communities by encouraging dialogue, communicating with alumni and others across borders, and introducing the Seeds of Peace experience to further young generations. Many are now in positions of influence themselves. Some of our "Seeds" (graduates) now serve as advisors to President Abbas, as an assistant to a member of the Knesset. Some are working at the World Bank, the United Nations and in TV and radio broadcasting. They are now in positions to take charge of their respective countries' destiny vis-a-vis the peace process, and are ready to take their place at the negotiating table.
