The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice is America’s only interfaith alliance dedicated to preserving reproductive choice. Our diverse, informed and active base of religious Americans includes the Clergy for Choice Network, 28 state affiliates, Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom, the National Black Church Initiative, La Iniciativa Latina, and individuals of all faiths committed to responsible reproductive health policies. Our coalition includes 41 national religious and religiously affiliated organizations from 15 denominations and faith traditions.
Mission
To bring the moral power of religious communities to ensure reproductive choice through education and advocacy. The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice works for reproductive options for all, with particular emphasis on reproductive issues of people of color, those living in poverty and other underserved populations.
History
Since 1973, the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, America’s only interfaith alliance dedicated to preserving reproductive choice, has worked nationally to bring the moral power of religious communities to ensure reproductive choice through education and advocacy. We work for reproductive options for all, with particular emphasis on reproductive issues of people of color, those living in poverty and other underserved populations.
RCRC’s 34 years of active leadership in the pro-choice movement ensures that the mainstream views of people of faith—who call for the protection and preservation of reproductive and religious freedom—are heard across the country. Our pro-faith, pro-family, pro-choice message is constant, consistent and clear and is based on fundamental principles that respect civil rights, human rights, women’s rights and religious freedom.
Program
The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice supports a progressive alliance of national and grassroots organizations and individuals in communities, congregations and campuses.
Our Call to Justice Campaign mobilizes supporters by providing religious perspectives on reproductive rights issues and building interfaith support for progressive pro-choice policy and laws.
Spiritual Youth for Reproductive Freedom prepares and mobilizes the next generation of religious, pro-choice leaders on college campuses across the country.
Our Clergy for Choice Network provides a venue for advocacy and support for religious, pro-choice clergy. Women and families facing unintended or problem pregnancies benefit from programs such as All Options Clergy Counseling, through which trained clergy provide unbiased, safe, and nonjudgmental counseling about reproductive options.
Our National Black Church Initiative and La Iniciativa Latina empower African American and Latino religious leaders to address teen childbearing, sexuality education, unplanned pregnancies, and other reproductive health issues within the context of their culture and religion.
Our grassroots and State Affiliate network includes 28 state affiliates and hundreds of dedicated individuals working to protect reproductive rights. Our support includes education, training, technical assistance and organizing assistance that strengthens their work in their states.
Impact
The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice’s impact can be seen through the thousands of religious, pro-choice supporters putting their faith into action. We address teen pregnancy and other reproductive health issues through comprehensive sexuality education for youth. Our campus youth initiative empowers young adults to support reproductive rights on their campuses. Our extensive public education efforts keep our supporters up-to-date on developments in reproductive choice and sustain their grassroots activism. Religious, pro-choice Americans demonstrate their support for reproductive rights in diverse ways every day which advances our mainstream values.
