Problem

Poor, uneducated women working in the informal sector in Latin America have little or no access to credit and health care. Pro Mujer needs your help to expand these services, and make a real impact on the lives of thousands of women and their families.

The Gift

This gift package will help one poor woman establish her own small business and access credit, business training, and health care services for herself and her family. Business training helps clients learn additional money management skills and how to effectively market their products. On average, clients double their income after two years of joining the organization. Clients also receive training in leadership, communications and self-esteem. Pro Mujer also organizes self-help groups to combat domestic violence and substance abuse. Pro Mujer encourages women to develop their full potential, claim their basic human rights, and access health services and resources. In addition, the children of Pro Mujer clients receive health support and education. Medical services include vaccinations and treatments for respiratory infections and diarrhea. In some countries, Pro Mujer has set up daycare centers for the children of its clients. These children also receive computer and English lessons.
