Overview

Go4theGoal Foundation is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to finding a cure for Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer. We are also involved with helping children and their families affected by pediatric cancer. We began our foundation in May of 2006, when our son, Richard, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. At this time, we saw the great need that existed for research in this field, as well as social support for patients and their families.

Mission

Since Richard’s death in June 2007, the Go4theGoal Foundation has increased our efforts towards accomplishing our goals. Along with your support, we can achieve these goals and our dream of finding a cure for Ewing’s and other sarcomas.
•Research Funding
At this time, our research funding is going to Dr. Jeffrey Toretsky, MD and his team of researchers at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University, who are dedicated to finding a cure for Ewing’s Sarcoma. Besides the cutting edge research happening in his lab, we were inspired by Dr. Toretsky’s personal dedication since his first patient was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in 1981. He has also been affiliated with the National Cancer Institute and the University of Maryland.

•Social Giving
In our mission to help pediatric cancer patients and their families, we are able to provide financial assistance for day to day expenses as well as special requests. Annual holiday gift baskets are given to pediatric cancer patients at area hospitals.

History

We began our foundation in May of 2006, when our son, Richard, 13 at the time, was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. At this time, we saw the great need that existed for research in this field, as well as social support for patients and their families. The foundation grew a little in the year during Richard's treatment. We had a few fundraisers but then really took after his death with memorial donations. We since have grown to include more fundraisers and a community service involvement with Richard's high school. The Lion's Den project has been our most ambitious fundraising project and we hope to build even more in years to come!

Impact

Providing assistance to children with cancer and their families by helping financial and emotional support so that they can experience all of the "normal" joys of childhood, while they fight to achieve their goal of being healthy again soon.

Goals This Year

We want to build a Lion's Den at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and then more at Hackensack Hospital and Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University. Each Lion's Den runs about $225,000 so our goals are ambitious. We also do a holiday gift basket program at the three hospitals, helping the Child Life Staff with specific family/patient needs or wishes. We also provide support for families that need day to day bills paid.

CEO

Beth Stefanacci: Mother of Richard, 14, who passed away, after battling Ewing's Sarcoma for 394 days. She saw a need to help the patients their family saw every day suffering from lonliness, boredom and pain and the families suffering with financial and support worries. The Stefanacci family wanted to create a foundation that would help the children to forget the ordeal of battling cancer.
