A gift of $25 will sponsor a HALO deminer for one week. Using his or her metal detector, a typical deminer will clear 250 square feet of hazardous ground per day. HALO currently fields nearly 8,000 mine clearance staff around the world. This work not only removes deadly landmines and items of unexploded ordnance from the ground but also provides employment in war-ravaged communities.

HALO Trust operational staff use safety visors to protect the face in the event of an inadvertent detonation. The visors are constructed by LBA International to HALO’s specifications, using 5mm polycarbonate and a curved shape that has a proven record of protection.

Each minefield is different but in some parts of the world, HALO estimates that it costs about $100 to safely locate and destroy a deadly landmine. Your gift will help HALO achieve its mission of "getting mines out of the ground, now."

Your gift will permit a member organization of the ICBL, located in a mine-affected region, to advocate for the full implementation of the Mine Ban Treaty in their country. Local ICBL member organizations lobby for and assist in the development of practical and efficient programs aimed at destroying antipersonnel stockpiles and removing mines from the ground.

Your donation will be used towards the purchase of a flight ticket to allow the participation of a landmine survivor campaigner in an international conference. Only with the participation of survivors in landmine-related conferences will the landmine programmes truly take into account the opinions and wishes of landmine survivors. Their presence is crucial to the mine ban movement.

Your gift will be used to support mine victim associations so that they may raise their voices and demands that their rights be respected within their country. A field visit to a mine-affected area helps the Landmine Monitor continue to be the definitive source in verifying that stockpiled mines have been destroyed; confirming reports of new mine victims and the documentation of suspected mine-affected communities to accurately reflect the progress and problems of efforts to rid the world of landmines.
