Overview

Carbonfund.org makes it easy and affordable for individuals, businesses, and organizations to reduce their climate impact and the carbon dioxide emissions they are responsible for in their everyday lives by supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation projects where they are most cost effective. Carbonfund.org works with over 800 corporate and nonprofit partners including Discovery, Volkswagen, Amtrak, Dell, Orbitz, Staples, and JetBlue.

Mission

Carbonfund.org seeks to reduce the threat of climate change by making it easy and affordable for any individual or business to reduce their carbon footprint and support climate-friendly projects.

Program

Carbon offsets work just like the offsets we do in our daily lives. You replace something in one place you can’t avoid by doing it someplace else where you can have an impact.

Carbonfund.org takes the contributions it receives, purchases carbon credits, i.e., quantified reductions from renewable energy, energy efficiency, or reforestation projects, and retires the credits.

Yes, it is that simple. There are lots of nuts and bolts in the background, but that is why we started Carbonfund.org – to bring a simple service to individuals and organizations to enable them to make an impact on climate change now.

Lastly, how do you know that the offsets are real, i.e., how do I know Carbonfund.org has done its homework? Simple, we are an open book and work with partners to insure we follow the best industry practices. Check out the verification page on our website and review our industry leading standards.

Impact

Carbon offsets enable anyone to reduce their climate footprint by supporting projects, typically energy efficiency, renewable energy, sequestration, biomass, etc. that reduce carbon dioxide emissions to offset one’s own climate footprint.

By reducing the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, Carbonfund.org reduces the threat of climate change in the hopes of making the future a clean, green place to live.

CEO

Eric Carlson is a founder, with his wife Lesley, and Executive Director of Carbonfund.org. Eric has more than fifteen years experience promoting cost-effective solutions to climate change, with an extensive background in energy efficiency and renewable energy. Prior to Carbonfund.org, Eric managed voluntary partnerships at the US EPA’s Energy Star Homes and Buildings programs. There he advised companies such as Gillette, IBM and Johnson & Johnson. Eric also spent six years managing programs for the Alliance to Save Energy in Central and Eastern Europe. He advised ministers of energy and environment on energy policy and climate change, testified before parliaments, advised the World Bank and IFC on major energy efficiency investments and trained municipal leaders. Eric and Lesley founded Carbonfund.org to make it easy and affordable for any individual or business to reduce their climate impact while hastening our transition to a low-carbon future. Lesley and Eric have two beautiful young daughters and want to pass on to them a cleaner world.
