Overview

CancerCare is a national non-profit organization that provides free professional counseling, educational programs, financial assistance and practical help to people with cancer, their loved ones, and the bereaved.

Mission

CancerCare provides free professional support services to anyone affected by cancer: people with cancer, caregivers, children, loved ones, and the bereaved. All CancerCare programs - including counseling, education, financial assistance, and practical help - are provided by trained oncology social workers.

Program

CancerCare Counseling's CancerCare oncology social workers provide individual and group counseling. Counseling is available in three ways ― face-to-face, on the phone, or online.

CancerCare for Kids: This unique child-focused program addresses the profound impact that cancer has on the entire family. Our social workers offer support, advice, and information to parents, and counsel children to help them understand the disease. Through this program, CancerCare helps more than 1,250 families each year.

CancerCare Assist: CancerCare offers limited financial assistance for treatment-related costs such as medication, transportation and child care. Last year, we disbursed more than $4.8 million to 18,000 families in need.

CancerCare Connect: Telephone Education Workshops (TEWs) allow individuals from across the country to listen to and ask questions of cancer experts. TEWs address a wide range of topics that are important to people affected by cancer, including treatment options and managing side effects. CancerCare also provides Connect booklets, which summarize TEWs and provide concise, easy-to-understand information. Last year, CancerCare provided 46 Telephone Education Workshops and distributed more than 350,000 copies of Connect booklets.

Impact

CancerCare now provides individual help to more than 100,000 people each year, in addition to the more than 1.4 million people who gain information and resources from its website.

Thanks to our generous supporters, more people than ever are aware of the free professional support services that CancerCare provides, giving us a greater opportunity to help as many people affected by cancer as possible. As an increasing number of people turn to our organization for help, it is important to continue to broaden and enhance our programs so that no one has to face cancer alone.
