Problem

Low income new American immigrants and refugees have few resources to help guide them toward financial security for their families. Many immigrant entrepreneurs do not have the tools to access the services they need to establish themselves financially in America. They face barriers of language and lack formal credit histories to qualify for loans. This impedes their ability to launch their business, save for their children's education, purchasing a home, and retirement.

The Gift

This gift will provide one financial literacy class to a low-income new American. AnewAmerica's 25-week college certificate course in Business Planning educates immigrants and refugees about how to be fiscally responsible, successful business owners. AnewAmerica offers a continuum of strategic services to help clients repair and build credit, build assets and prepare them to access business loans and become bankable in the near future. AnewAmerica's focus on financial literacy education enables entrepreneurs to become educated savers, and to leverage the earnings they save toward an Individual Development Account (IDA) with AnewAmerica, which enables them to receive matching funds to invest in their business, purchase a house, and save for retirement.
