Prevent Blindness

Refugee glaucoma care

  • $50.00

Problem

There are 45 million blind people in the world, and 80% of all blindness is preventable or curable. The major barriers to eye care in developing countries include education and awareness, expense, distance and transportation, as well as poor quality of services by untrained or under-trained doctors.

The Gift

An extimated 66.8 million people have glaucoma, and 6.7 million people are blind from this irreversible condition. Glaucoma is a gradual disease that steals sight, but can be treated with eye drops. Unite For Sight and Crystal Eye Clinic provide free glaucoma treatment to refugees at Buduburam Refugee Camp in Ghana, and the patients need refills of medication on a monthly basis for the rest of their lives. The daily eye drops prevent permanent blindness. Please help prevent blindness among glaucoma patients at Buduburam Refugee Camp by sponsoring their ongoing glaucoma care.
